It's All About Richmond

You may know Richmond as the home of Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and 2010 Olympic long-track speed skating. Yet the city’s roots run even deeper.

Bordering the Fraser River and the Strait of Georgia, Richmond was founded in 1879 as a farming and salmon-canning community. You can still explore its maritime legacy in the historic fishing village of Steveston. Yet now, Richmond has grown into a diverse 21st-century metropolis. Its population is about 60 percent Asian, reflected in the exotic shopping and dining in the Golden Village, as well as the temples on the “Highway to Heaven” (No. 5 Rd.). From cycling and casino fun to wineries and whale-watching, Richmond’s got it all.
