The small town of Storybrooke in the ABC hit TV series Once Upon a Time is actually the village of Steveston in Richmond, BC!
Since 2011, film crews have been descending on this quaint fishing village to transform it into Storybrooke, Maine. The businesses in the "Real Storybrooke" are often seen in the show, and crews spend hours changing signs and building set pieces prior to filming. The Steveston Post Office & Visitor Centre becomes the Storybrooke Post Office, Steveston Coffee Co. transforms into Storybrooke Coffee Co., and Pieces home décor and gift shop turns into Purbeck Shoes. Romania Country Bread has truly embraced its fictional alter ego, and maintains their Storybrooke Country Bread signage year-round.
Fans can pick up a free Once Upon a Time walking map at the Tourism Richmond Visitor Centre on Moncton Street (where much of the filming takes place) to take their own self-guided tour of Steveston. It's fun to walk in the footsteps of the show's stars, such as Robert Carlyle (Rumpelstiltskin), Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan), and Lana Parrilla (Regina Mills)!
Stop by the Visitor Centre at 3811 Moncton Street to get your official licensed OUAT souvenirs, such as t-shirts, hats, mugs, magnets, and much more!
Several shops in Steveston carry OUAT-themed merchandise or have created themed food or beverages. The Candy Dish carries a variety of sweet treats such as Snow White Fudge and Rumpel's Chocolate Dagger. Visitors can also try a Dark Swan Latte at Village Books & Coffee House or Henry & Emma's Special Hot Chocolate with Cinnamon at Steveston Coffee Co.
Whether you're looking for fish n' chips, fine dining restaurants, fresh coffee or frosted cupcakes, there is something for everyone in Steveston!
Be sure to venture around the City of Richmond as well because you'll come across some of the best Chinese food outside of Asia.
