Accessiblity in Richmond
Due to the flatness of the land and accessibility goals for the community, Richmond is easier to access by people with mobility and agility challenges.
Accessibility Standards
The City regulates its accessibility standards for its public buildings, facilities, buses and community shuttle minibuses. In addition, select Richmond businesses have volunteered to be rated by 2010 Legacies Now and the Province of British Columbia to make Richmond a premier travel destination for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar accessibility needs.
Accessibility Rating Icons
The following icons reflect the accessibility of hotels, restaurants, retailers, attractions and other tourism businesses for people with disabilities. There are four icons representing fully wheelchair accessible, partially wheelchair accessible, hearing accessible and sight accessible.
Fully Wheelchair Accessible
Business has no physical barriers into or around the building, or to key amenities or services.
Partially Wheelchair Accessible
Business has no physical barriers limiting entry into building; however, barriers are present in or around business limiting access for people in wheelchairs.
Visual Accessibility
Business has appropriate emergency alarms and plans, and offers communication material in alternate formats accessible for people with visual impairments, and offers communication material in alternate formats accessible for people with hearing impairments.
Hearing Accessibility
Business has appropriate emergency alarms and plans,and offers communication material in alternate formats accessible for people with hearing impairments.
